Over the past several months, we’ve seen brands pivot business strategies faster than ever before, and developers are at the core of this evolution. COVID-19’s impact has made developers even more crucial to organizations as their strategic importance continues to rise across every industry. Developers have always been viewed as skilled technical employees who support a company’s operations, but as the pandemic has accelerated the need for a digital strategy, developers are also playing a vital role in creating new revenue streams.

At Adobe, we recognize the value a diverse and global network of developers bring to any organization. The passion our developers – including the 350k developers in the Magento community – have for creative problem-solving, tackling complex challenges, and extending Adobe’s core capabilities has allowed brands to solve for some of the most complex business problems.

At Adobe Developers Live today – Adobe’s first virtual conference dedicated to bringing together developers – we announced new Adobe Experience Cloud initiatives to help developers build, extend and engage with Adobe apps, powering customer experience management across industries. Specifically, developers will have access to a new framework allowing them to build custom apps, a new way to simplify data collection, plus a new collection of libraries and tools to help them meet the high standards of creating a user interface.

Project Firefly extends capabilities of Adobe Experience Cloud applications

To empower developers with greater flexibility to extend business capabilities on Adobe applications, Adobe debuted Project Firefly, a complete framework for building custom apps, tailor-made to the unique needs of any business and its workflow requirements.

By arming developers with a set of open source development and automation tools, Project Firefly gives developers access to design and develop custom apps, increasing developer productivity and leading to increased business agility. For example, brands wanting a customized view of sales data can build a Firefly app that leverages data from Adobe Analytics and design an aggregated dashboard so they can easily understand real time sales performance. In this case, Project Firefly makes it much easier to extend Adobe Analytics capabilities without a lot of maintenance for application and deployment.

New web and mobile SDKs simplify data collection

Streamlining data collection at scale has become one of the greatest challenges for developers to deliver real-time experiences. Historically, developers were working with separate data collection stacks and libraries not built to work with each other, resulting in unnecessary friction with data deployment. Adobe recently announced new Adobe Experience Platform Web and Mobile SDKs that can be leveraged by Adobe Experience Cloud applications. Adobe Experience Platform is the industry’s first open and extensible platform that enables brands to stitch together their data across the enterprise, enabling developers to stream data to first-or third-party destinations in seconds.

Through Adobe Experience Platform Launch Server Side, developers can leverage Adobe’s new Web and Mobile SDKs and world-wide data collection network to move work previously done on the browser or mobile device to the server. Developers will experience simplified data collection and immediately start to see improved site performance for faster page and app load time. No other platform in the industry offers all of these capabilities integrated into a single product. Adobe strives to help its customers build consumer trust through transparency and improve the customer experience with privacy in mind. Adobe Experience Platform provides data governance tools to help brands respect user data.

React Spectrum

When thousands of developers are working on hundreds of products, it’s challenging for companies to meet high standards for UI consistency, accessibility, internationalization, and usability. As design systems become increasingly popular, many businesses are implementing their own component libraries from scratch. However, these libraries aren’t fully accessible across all devices, plus additional features like accessibility, internationalization, full keyboard navigation, and touch interactions are deprioritized due to time and resources.

To address these challenges, Adobe is introducing React Spectrum, an open-source collection of libraries and tools that helps developers build adaptive, accessible, and robust user experiences to help meet customer expectations at scale. With React Spectrum, developers have access to three libraries to help them build customer web applications– React Spectrum, React Aria and React Stately.

Commitment to developers

To further our commitment to supporting the unique needs of developers, today Adobe announced the creation of a new organization within the Digital Experience business that unifies developer experience across Adobe Experience Cloud. The new developer organization aims to help grow, cultivate and lay the foundation for our diverse developers to extend and customize on Adobe applications. Having a dedicated organization focused on developers allows us to better foster the unprecedented amount of diverse perspectives, creativity, and expertise developers bring to businesses as we all navigate this new reality together.
