Update for Enterprise Customers Using Adobe Flash Player

As previously announced in July 2017, Adobe will stop updating and distributing Flash Player after December 31, 2020. We made this announcement in collaboration with several of our technology partners – including Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Mozilla – which issued complementary announcements with more technical detail on what the Flash Player end-of-life (EOL) will mean for developers, enterprises, and consumers using their specific operating system environments or browsers. Some browser vendors may start to phase out support for Flash Player and other third-party plugs-ins before the end of 2020.

We’ve been supporting our enterprise customers on transition plans through the Flash EOL timeline. Since open standards such as HTML5, WebGL and WebAssembly are continually maturing to serve as viable alternatives for Flash content, most browser vendors are integrating these open standards into their browsers and deprecating third-party plug-ins. However, some enterprise customers may still require Flash Player commercial support and licensing beyond 2020 to run internal business systems (i.e. content on a company’s intranet, interactive dashboards, digital training). For these instances, enterprise customers should contact our official distribution licensing partner – HARMAN – to see what options are available.

HARMAN has a long-standing history as a Flash partner, maintains knowledge of the platform and ecosystem, and is well-positioned to support our enterprise customers through this transition given more than a decade of experience. Potential services provided by HARMAN may include, but are not limited to:

Transitioning Flash content to alternate technologies

Creating custom downloadable applications that will load specified Flash content for end user distribution

Providing updated Flash Player installers that will allow Flash to run with compatible browsers in an internal environment

More information on Flash support options for enterprise customers is available here.

Adobe will continue issuing regular Flash Player security patches while maintaining operating system and browser compatibility through the end of 2020. End users will be prompted on their machines to uninstall Adobe Flash Player later this year. As always, we recommend that our customers use the latest, supported and up-to-date software.
