A new solution for doing procedures in a “smarter” way and an opportunity to participate in the beta program!
Hope you are well. Today, I wanted to give you some useful information on a different topic, but one that is related to the Technical Communications profession. We, at Adobe, have been working on a new solution with the goal of reducing human performance issues during execution of procedures and tasks related to maintenance, operations, servicing etc.
Now, I am sure that many of you may be writing these technical procedures for the maintenance and servicing department in your organizations. With this new solution, one would be able to perform these procedures electronically, using the modern user friendly mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones etc., rather than in the prevalent paper based environment. We believe that this solution can help organizations to benefit from electronic execution and record keeping, with significant ROI to be realized.
If you are interested, please read on to learn more about the solution and how you can participate in the beta program of this new solution.
What is the Business problem we are trying to solve?
Currently, organizations are executing various kinds of step-by-step procedures for doing maintenance, repair or to simply operate an equipment. There organizations may be in different kinds of industries e.g. manufacturing, nuclear, telecomm, electronics, just to name a few. However, the execution is done mainly in a paper based environment and hence, is prone to errors. Sometimes, these errors can be quite costly to the organization, with costs ranging up to millions of dollars. So, there is a need for a “smarter” procedure execution in many of these organizations.
Solution overview and value proposition
To address this unmet need, we have been working on a new solution with the goal to reduce these human performance issues. We have **developed a platform for doing procedure execution in a “smart” manner using mobile devices. **Here is how it will work..
- The technician/service professional will run a mobile app on their device and this app will guide the technician step-by-step in the procedure.
- The app will take the technician through the various sections and steps, while ensuring that all mandatory steps are done, branching/jumping to steps is done correctly and any pre-defined rules are enforced. In a nutshell, the app ensures that the procedure is executed completely and correctly.
- The technician simply uses this app to execute the procedure and doesn’t need to submit paper logs. As soon as the procedure execution is done, there will be an electronic report available to the supervisor immediately, with details on what steps were performed, by whom and at what time.
There are several other benefits of this solution, but it is difficult to go into those details in a short blog post. However, if you are interested in learning more, you can contact me (see below)
We have released a beta version of this solution and are looking for suitable organizations, who will be interested in evaluating the beta version and providing their feedback. Since we are at an early stage with this solution, this will be a great opportunity for you to help us design a solution that meets your specific needs.
If you are interested in learning more about the solution and how you can participate in the beta program, I am happy to have a conversation with you and give you a demo of the working product. Please write to me at kverma at adobe dot com, if you are interested.
Thanks for your attention.
