Demand for enterprise mobile apps has grown, and our customers have requested a mobile app platform that not only displays content in an interactive, compelling way — but also drives action through integration with content management systems, inclusion of device-level capabilities, and connections with mission-critical business systems.

As part of our release, we are retiring the Adobe Digital Publishing Solution (DPS) and the Adobe Experience Manager Apps brands. We have put together an FAQ below to explain what this means in detail.

INFORMATION FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS

How is Adobe Experience Manager Mobile different than DPS?

Adobe Experience Manager Mobile combines the platform capabilities of asset management and content creation from Adobe Experience Manager as well as the on-demand services that were offered as part of DPS into one product. These on-demand services include the ability to:

I’m logging into my DPS portal and I see that I am logging into Adobe Experience Manager Mobile? Why?

As a DPS customer, you get access to the on-demand services for Adobe Experience Manager Mobile. We have rebranded the services that were previously DPS to Adobe Experience Manager Mobile On-Demand Services.

I have live DPS apps and content in my dashboard. Do I need to do anything or migrate anything as a result of this change?

No.

I’m a DPS customer, what don’t I get access to from Adobe Experience Manager Mobile?

You do not get access to asset management and content creation functionality that is part of the Adobe Experience Manager platform.

Can I still buy DPS? What happens when my DPS contract is up for renewal?

We will no longer sell DPS as the on-demand services are now included in Adobe Experience Manager Mobile. DPS customers who want to renew contracts will renew to Adobe Experience Manager Mobile. If you are a DPS customer and you want to upgrade to Adobe Experience Manager Mobile now, prior to your contract expiration, please contact us and we can help.

What is the future of DPS?

The DPS services are carried forward as the on-demand services in Adobe Experience Manager Mobile. As an existing DPS customer, your apps and your content will remain unaffected and you will have access to the on-demand services of Adobe Experience Manager Mobile.

What is the future of Digital Publishing Suite (DPS Classic)?

We have no near-term plans to end-of-life the Digital Publishing Suite (DPS Classic) product as many companies and organizations still use it. That said, all innovation and our product updates every three weeks are devoted to the Adobe Experience Manager Mobile product. We will only update Digital Publishing Solution (DPS Classic) apps for new operating systems and bug fixes.**

PRODUCT

Yes. The product has open APIs that allow our customers to integrate a wide variety of enterprise content sources to their apps whether they are other content management systems, product systems, ERP systems, or CRM systems etc. If you need access to these APIs, click here.

What is the relationship between Adobe PhoneGap, Apache Cordova, and Adobe Experience Manager Mobile?

Apache Cordova is an open source framework that allows you to create mobile apps using standardized web APIs. Adobe PhoneGap is an Adobe distribution of Apache Cordova in a similar way to how WebKit is the engine that powers Chrome or Safari. Apps that are created with Adobe Experience Manager Mobile are native code that can be extended with Apache Cordova plugins—enabling our customers to extend their apps with custom plugins created by developers.

Adobe PhoneGap Enterprise was an enterprise mobile app solution that became known as Adobe Experience Manager Apps, all of which is now part of Adobe Experience Manager Mobile.

When will I be able to begin to extend Adobe Experience Manager Mobile apps with Cordova?

We will release our first builds that include the Apache Cordova extensibility framework at Adobe Summit in Las Vegas from March 20-24, 2016. Continued development of APIs and app extensibility is a major product roadmap focus for Adobe Experience Manager Mobile.

Is Adobe Experience Manager Mobile the same thing as the Mobile Add-on that was previously available with Experience Manager?

No. The Mobile Add-on (discontinued in 2015) provided a limited set of mobile web features to Experience Manager customers, like mobile browser device detection. Starting with Experience Manager Sites 6.1, the Mobile Add-On and its features were rolled into the Experience Manager Sites license.
