Nordic Creative Talent Award winners: Frederik Louis Hviid is a unique filmmaker breaking through the clutter
As an audience, we should honor filmmakers with a visual language personal and unique enough to break through the clutter. We think that the Danish Børnefonden and several artists and bands in particular are especially grateful.
Movie director student Frederik Louis Hviid from Denmark won one of Adobe’s acknowledged Nordic Creative Talent Awards last year.
Read the jury’s motivation for selecting Frederik Louis Hviid:
”We are completely surrounded by pictures and so many of them are moving images these days. As an audience, we should honor filmmakers with a visual language personal and unique enough to break through the clutter. We think that the Danish Børnefonden and several artists and bands in particular are especially grateful. Therefore Frederik Louis Hviid deserves the title Creative Talent.”
_KING is a story of three young boys who come across the idea of robbing banks for a living. But as they plunge into a life of crime – greed and paranoia starts to creep up under their skin, turning them against each other. The film is inspired, and based, on true events that occurred in Copenhagen around the early 90’s. “We did a lot of research for this project, as we were very keen on portraying the environment, the people and the heist with autenticity and substance. Which is, to my recollection, the first time that has been done for a heist film in Denmark”, says Frederik Louis Hviid. The film was recently nominated for Young Directors Award in Cannes.

Frederik Louis Hviid has dreamt about being a film maker since he was a little boy:
”As a kid I only had VHS-tapes. My parents were going nuts because it was the only thing I spent money on.”
Bitter is the music video for Patrick Dorgan’s song Bitter: “I’ve always been fascinated with boxing. Because of its oppositions. I have always been drawn to the anarchy of violence in my projects. The physical – as well as the psychological. And boxing has that in abundances. But it shares it with an intense beauty, fragility and elegance, that is unlike any other sport in my perspective. That combination is, to me, truly spellbinding.”
How does it feel to be a winner of the Nordic Creative Talent Award?
”A huge privilige and I feel honoured to be invited to Stockholm. To be reconized as a talent has been something I’ve tried to reach as long as I can remember. Getting closer to my goals is hugely satisfying.”
Ad for Børnefonden: “This was a project, I knew I wanted to do – straight away. Having traveled across Africa, more than once, seeing the poverty and the daily struggle of so many people, I felt compelled to help raising awareness – and hopefully some money – to this very important matter. The project felt very meaningful to me, and I remember feeling a lot responsibility resting on my shoulders. As there should be,” says Frederik Louis Hviid.
Frederik thinks film makers should dare make films they want to watch themselves and not avoid entertainment:
”It feels a bit like they are afraid to entertain. They are seeking to inspire us intellectually, but forget to entertain us so we are totally engaged in their move,” says Frederik Louis Hviid.
