Theresa May Visits Adobe Maidenhead for Girls in Tech Summit

Days before becoming Britain’s new Prime Minister, Theresa May joined us to inspire young women to choose careers in tech.

Just 12 days before Rt Hon Theresa May, MP became Britain’s new Prime Minister, she joined us at our European headquarters in Maidenhead to welcome female students from the local community for the “Girls in Tech Summit.”

The day-long event aimed to encourage gender inclusion and diversity within the technology industry by raising awareness of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) career opportunities among girls aged 13-15.

Alongside talks from our own female leadership team, a series of inspirational discussions and workshops were organized to tackle the challenges that keep women from pursuing STEM careers. In her talk, Theresa May, shared her own experience of building a career in an area under-represented by women. She encouraged the girls to aim high in STEM subjects and consider the potential careers they could have in technology. On that day, she stated that the Government was committed to encouraging further diversity in technology to attract top young female talent in to Maidenhead’s local businesses.

She also recognized our role in advancing women in tech. “It’s fantastic to be involved in the Adobe & Women initiative and be part of this drive to inspire the next generation of women to pursue the broad range of rewarding STEM-based careers that are available to them, but they may not know about,” said Theresa May. “There is an under-representation of women in STEM-related careers and events like this are key if we are to overcome the barriers which stop many young girls from pursuing a STEM career.”

We created the event as we recognize we have a role to play in raising awareness of the huge opportunity technology can provide young women and inspire girls in our local community to pursue STEM-based careers.

We were thrilled to have had Theresa May attend our event and have really have enjoyed welcoming local schools. We hope the students left feeling inspired about the multitude of careers STEM subjects can offer.
