Their Planet, Their Voice: Creativity Scholars and the Environment

2016 Adobe Creativity Scholars are boldly creating representations of the world we live in. This month, we kicked off a 7-part series introducing them through the themes that bring them together. The scholars we profiled last week expressed their views about human rights. Today, we introduce a group of artists who transcend adversities affecting the environment and illustrate its beauty. These creativity scholars use photography and moving images to voice their views about our planet. They are ecologists, naturalists and intimate observers amplifying the relationships between nature, people and inanimate objects.

“The world around us is ever-changing. Those who let it pass, are destined to regret it. But those who pause at the moment, and capture what can’t be seen without stopping, understand the value of time.” – Adam Peche

Agata Mroczek, 19 (Niecme, Lubelskie, Poland)

Agata’s photographic collection, My Vision of Art, exhibits how time, people, and inventions impact nature. She asks us to live and interact with the environment in a more harmonious way: “I wish people started observing thoroughly the world, and were more sensible and sensitive to the surrounding beauty I capture in my photos.”

Adam Peche, 18 (San Antonio, Texas, USA)

Adam reminds us of the importance of each moment. His photographs, Wandering the World, pause to recognize a specific moment in time, showcasing sensory experiences of our environment: the warmth of the sunlight, the sound of a violin, the beauty of a classic car. “The world around us is ever-changing. Those who let it pass, are destined to regret it. But those who pause at the moment, and capture what can’t be seen without stopping, understand the value of time.”

Camila Aguirre Avila, 19 (Huixquilucan, Mexico)

“I am an ecologist and creative millennial. I want to remind people that we need to respect nature in order to keep living.” In Camila’s creation, Dancing with the Moon, she uses the surreal image of a woman merging with the moon, the sea and the sky to illustrate our relationship with the environment and inspire us to connect with the natural world.

Dilip V, 17 (Bangalore, Karnataka, India)

Dilip and his teammates researched and edited the documentary Garb-age. The film exposes the terrible conditions a poor community faces when a lack of garbage collection leads to health problems, mosquito infestation and an unbearable stench. A woman laments her family’s hospitalization due to the rotting field of waste outside her doorstep. Local youth organize to remove rubbish, create awareness, and provide trash, recycling and composting bins. Dilip makes his objective clear: “My goal is to make a difference!”
