Meet this year’s D&AD Yellow Pencil Winner!
Earlier this month the D&AD awarded the hugely talented Julia Baulin the prestigious Yellow Pencil Award for her response to the Adobe brief where she turned the Creative Cloud brand identity into a seamless user experience. The iconic D&AD Yellow Pencil is only awarded to the most outstanding work that achieves true creative excellence, and with Julia’s remarkable skill and passion she was thoroughly deserving of such a respected award.
We caught up with Julia to chat about what winning means to her and her design plans for the future…
How did you feel being shortlisted for the awards initially?
Fantastic! It was a great feeling to know that my idea was being recognised by industry professionals. It’s very motivating!
What inspired your submission?
I read an article about a psychological experiment that shows that people don’t always remember the visual details of logos which they see every day. This is due to the overload of visual input we experience everywhere we go and our brains are programmed to forget those details. That’s why I wanted to implement Creative Cloud’s brand into the user’s workflow, making the user feel like Creative Cloud is always with them. I believe that when the user can experience the brand, it creates a stronger bond between the two.

It’s a big motivation boost to be recognised by the industry! It definitely makes me want to work harder and do my best in all my future projects.
What do you think this means for your future plans and career?
My biggest passions are design, technology and innovation! I’m about to start my final year in college where I’ll be specialising in digital design. I hope that in a year’s time I’ll be working with a great digital design company where, together as a team, we can create innovative ideas, improve the digital world and win some professional pencil awards!
