Marketers can be a brazen bunch, but to have the moxie to futz with the English language? According to this “small study” by the American Marketing Association, industry practioners are guilty of a practice called “verbing”—in which nouns are used as verbs and vice versa.
From the AMA article: Here are some cringe-worthy examples of verbing we have encountered recently, from both students and marketing professionals: “We haven’t languaged that yet.” “Can we action that by next week?” “We are efforting to find a solve for this.” “Let’s focus on the build.”
Acceptance was higher among marketing students vs. working adults, according to the AMA.
