Creating Digital Waves in the Aloha State

Best known for active volcanoes, beaches, surfing, and hiking, Hawaii is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Fittingly, the State of Hawaii is embracing a paperless initiative that will, among other things, reduce negative impacts on the environment. Equally as important is the wider adoption of digital processes that will help government employees, who work across the state’s seven islands, deliver services to citizens more effectively.

The Aloha state adopted Adobe Sign, an Adobe Document Cloud solution, for its electronic signature needs and has reduced the back-and-forth that typically accompanies document review and approval processes. For example, time to complete paperwork associated with new hires alone has been reduced by 80 percent. Workflows have been simplified for greater oversight and efficiencies.

“Using Adobe Sign as part of Hawaii’s eSign Services, we eliminate much of the time previously spent preparing and routing documents,” says Todd Nacapuy, Chief Information Officer for the State of Hawaii. “State personnel can sign with just a few clicks, so we can we can focus on state business and roll out new services faster.”

For example, the Hawaii Department of Health will use Adobe Sign to manage signed immunization forms for 180,000 students in K-12 schools. Parents and guardians can sign the forms electronically, making it faster and easier to comply with this annual process. In addition, state employees are using Adobe Creative Cloud apps such as Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, Adobe Photoshop CC, InDesign CC, and Dreamweaver CC to cost-effectively create and deliver high-quality communications to citizens.

To date, more than 64,000 documents have been signed electronically, and the expectation for growth is high. As many as 25,000 employees will be interacting with a document using Adobe Sign, either as a person initiating a document for signature or as a signer, and that number is also expected to increase—potentially by the tens of thousands.
