December update of Adobe Experience Design CC

This month’s big news is that we’ve released the first public beta for Adobe XD for Windows 10 – you can read more about the much anticipated Windows release here.

What’s new for XD on macOS?

For the 500,000 designers who have downloaded XD for macOS to date, we’re continuing to release monthly updates as promised. For the next couple of months however, we’ll focus our efforts on responding to feedback, fixing bugs and continuing to enhance performance – over and above adding new features.

This will allow us to make rapid progress on ensuring feature parity across both the macOS and Windows 10 versions of XD – something that is essential for us to add in many of the future capabilities that we showcased at our MAX event last month, including designer collaboration and developer hand-off capabilities.

That doesn’t mean you won’t see new capabilities, however – we know there is a lot you’ve asked for! Today we’ve released significant updates to the XD mobile apps (more details below), and in the coming months you’ll see frequently requested enhancements to prototype sharing, including guest comments and support for annotations.

What’s new for XD on mobile?

We received a lot of great feedback from the initial release of XD for iOS and Android – based on what you’ve told us, we’re excited to release the following new capabilities on mobile:

Viewing XD documents

In the first release of XD mobile you could view prototypes by connecting your device over USB to a desktop also running XD. We’re now adding the ability to open any XD document stored in the Creative Cloud Files folder directly on your mobile device. You can open a document by tapping on the folder icon and choosing “XD Document from Creative Cloud”.

Whether you view your prototype via USB (available on macOS) or by opening the document in Creative Cloud, you can now continue interacting with the prototype when disconnected or offline. This is ideal for showing your designs to a client or other stakeholders for feedback.

This release improves the way you can navigate prototypes on mobile devices. By default, prototypes will now show hints if you don’t touch a defined hotspot. You can turn hotspot hints off by long pressing on the current artboard and toggling this from the menu.

In addition to navigating via defined prototype interactions, you can also browse all the artboards in a document and select a specific screen to view. You can view all artboards by long pressing on the current artboard and choosing “Browse Artboards”. This is helpful for documents that contain multiple artboards.

Sharing from mobile

Finally, in addition to interacting with prototypes on the device, you can now share the current prototype screen with others. To do this, long press on the current artboard and choose “Share this Screen as Image”, then select how you’d like to share the image.
