The Best of Both Worlds
When Myra Haubrich moved to the Bay Area from Canada, she was eager to get a taste of the startup life. She spent several years at various small startups, building up her skill set as a Senior Systems Administrator.
And then she got a call from Adobe.
“I heard that in big companies, it’s harder to make impact because there’s a lot of red tape,” Myra says. “But I decided to give it a try as Adobe has a history of innovation, and I’m so happy I did!”
Myra joined Adobe as a senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) in July 2015. She’s part of the SRE team in San Jose that manages Adobe’s Marketing Cloud offerings – making sure that all applications and infrastructure are in tip-top shape. This is critical because thousands of companies rely on Adobe’s services to run and manage their own websites and market to their own customers.
“High-end retailers, big hotel chains, many large Fortune 500 companies, and even government agencies are relying on us to make their businesses go and grow,” Myra says. “The responsibility to ensure these services are up 24×7 is the greatest reward to me.”

Myra says many of her friends in the startup world sometimes express concerns around the lack of stability, but are also hesitant to join a big company in fear of being pigeonholed into a specific role. Myra says Adobe has the best of both worlds, where people have the opportunity to make consequential decisions that can enhance the future of the company.
“At Adobe, there are so many different teams and technologies to explore as an SRE, I feel like a kid in a candy store.” Myra says. “At the same time, Adobe offers things that startups rarely have: scalability with large infrastructure, more overall resources, better work life integration, and collaboration between bigger and different groups of people.”
Another perk: the uncommon way Adobe values its employees. Myra says she belongs to affinity groups such as Women in Technology, attends career development workshops, and has already seen her feedback help make operations run more efficiently. She’s already charting her career path and knows that Adobe will help make it happen, through courses, mentorship, and shadowing opportunities.
“You can’t find that kind of commitment to employees at little startups—and honestly, I don’t even know if you can find it at many big companies,” Myra says. “Adobe really invests in all their employees.”
