Italian film “Mine” Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CC Enjoys Critical Acclaim

In 2008, Matteo Santi turned down a job as a clerk in a large corporation to pursue his passion for film and video. Just nine years later, he won the award for best Italian film editing at the Festival del Cinema Città di Spello for his work on the film Mine. Co-written and directed by Fabio Guaglione and Fabio Resinaro and starring American actor Armie Hammer, the film tells the story of a soldier stranded in the desert in Africa who must find a way to survive after stepping on an active land mine.

Santi gained experience working in Bologna, Italy and his home town of Cesena, Italy, editing documentaries, short films, commercials, and a video for Rockin1000 that went viral. After collaborating for a number of years with post-production facilities in Italy, he happened to see a post on Facebook from Guaglione saying that he was looking for an editor for Mine.

“I sent him a message and received an immediate response,” says Santi. “We had four Skype sessions before the directors chose me to edit the film. I immediately went to Milan for five months.”

Santi has worked with Adobe Premiere Pro since he started editing and found that it was the perfect choice for editing Mine. He worked closely with Guaglione on editing the film, often working long days and weekends to complete the project in just five months. Filippo Mauro Boni joined them to assist with the last month of editing. In addition to editing with Premiere Pro, Santi used Adobe Audition CC for noise removal on some clips.

“Adobe Premiere Pro CC let us work very quickly and handle the challenges of integrating many flashback sequences, both of which were very important,” says Santi. “Premiere Pro works with many codecs and integrates well with other post-production tools for visual effects, sound, and color correction.”

The film released in Italy in October 2016 and has enjoyed great success. In addition to Santi and Guaglione winning the Festival del Cinema Città di Spello best editing award, the film is also nominated for directing and digital effects awards at the prestigious Accademia Del Cinema Italiano Premi David Di Donatello awards and Santi is nominated for best editor at the Nastro d’Argento film awards. Mine premiered in the United States on April 7, 2017, and will also be released in London, France, Germany, and Spain later in 2017.
