Artboard Upgrades Coming in Illustrator

We’re excited to give you a sneak peek of something new coming in a future release of Illustrator that will allow for more artboards within a single document. And to help you organize your expanded artboards, we’ve also enhanced artboard management capabilities for more flexibility.

Artboards are areas within Illustrator that containtain printable and exportable artwork, but users have always been constrained to a max of 100 artboards. WIth the new release of Illustrator, you can create up to 1,000 artboards — a tenfold increase of your creative potential. The engineering team has worked hard to expand artboard capabilities without making any compromises on the performance of Illustrator.

With more artboards to keep track of, we also added a few enhancements that let you manage them better. Soon, you’ll be able to select artboards in bulk and move them with Shift (or Command-A) and selecting all the artboards you want to move. And your artwork won’t be lost in the move. If you need to resize all your selected artboards you will be able to modify them all in bulk by defining the height and width values.

In addition, you can also tidy up your Illustrator file by bulk organizing your artboard grid by rows or columns, automatically spaced however you’ve defined. You can also align and distribute your artboards just you would for any object.

For designers already using numerous artboards — and those excited by the possibilities — these changes will greatly enhance your workflow. Stay tuned for the new release of Illustrator CC.
