Students Learn to be Visual Communicators

School District of the Chathams (SDOC) believes in helping its more than 4,150 children discover and grow their unique gifts. Part of this effort involves exposing them to tools that enable them to learn academically and through creative exploration.

Offering students the opportunity to engage with Adobe creative software is one way SDOC promotes learning and creativity. With Adobe Creative Cloud, the district was able to transition to a more cost-effective licensing model that also enables teachers to expand their lessons to include the creation of video, websites, and large-format printed materials.

With Adobe Creative Cloud, the district’s IT Specialist William O’Connor can use a central dashboard to create software packages for classes and easily deploy them to users. “Adobe Creative Cloud has reduced the time needed to manage software and licenses by at least 75 percent,” says O’Connor. “Automation allows me to spend less time on administration and more time working on ways to improve IT environments for our students and teachers.”

Teachers use apps in Adobe Creative Cloud to enrich classroom learning and extracurricular activities. In her web design class, teacher Julie Ryan helps students build dynamic websites using Adobe Photoshop CC, Dreamweaver CC, and Animate CC. Students in Kiera Spadaro’s graphic design class work on real-world projects, such as posters for theater productions and t-shirt designs for events, helping them understand both the fundamentals of design and how to meet client demands.

The knowledge and skills students develop are useful in any field and help make them desirable to both employers and colleges after graduation.
