Adobe Enables Filmmakers to Tell Their Stories at Sundance

The 2018 Sundance Film Festival represents an incredible breadth of storytelling, told from diverse perspectives across the world, and we’re proud to be there once again as a major partner. The things that have us most excited for the 2018 event in Park City, Utah, are the growing number of filmmakers who use Adobe Creative Cloud to tell their stories, the opportunity to support diversity with the Women at Sundance Fellowship, and the chance to give aspiring filmmakers a boost with Sundance Ignite. For more information about Adobe’s initiatives at Sundance, see this blog article.

For 40 years, the Sundance Film Festival has been recognizing amazing storytelling through film. Adobe is proud once again to be a part of it all, and we hope you will join us. While you’re anticipating this year’s festival, listen to what some Adobe customers have to say about producing their films. We’ll see you there!

This year, 55 percent of filmmakers surveyed said they edited their film projects with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Adobe’s industry-leading video-editing software helps filmmakers seamlessly create flawless productions as they transform raw footage into compelling stories. And, in a nod to the wild west of storytelling, more than half of the virtual reality (VR) projects at the festival also used Premiere Pro CC. Overall, a vast majority of the films (86 percent) used Adobe Creative Cloud tools, from After Effects Media Encoder, to Photoshop and Illustrator, in some capacity.

When looking at all festival projects, 170 use Adobe technology. Many of the most-anticipated Sundance films — such as TYREL, Monsters and Men, RBG, Nancy, Damsel, Dark Monkey, Clara’s Ghost, and Never Goin’ Back — were built by incredibly talented editors with Adobe products.

But the most rewarding part of our contribution to filmmaking is seeing the success of the more than 50 emerging filmmakers we’ve helped with tools and mentorship through the Sundance Ignite program. This year, we can’t wait to watch as two Sundance Ignite alumni make their debut at the festival: Emily Ann Hoffman (Nevada) and Charlotte Regan (Fry Up).

Join us today, January 17, 2018, for a Facebook Live Q&A from 4:45-5:30 p.m. MST. We’ll interview Sundance Film Festival Director of Programming John Cooper about the themes and priorities of the 2018 festival, the selection process for the thousands of films submitted, and how Adobe and the Sundance Institute work together to support the vibrant and growing community of diverse voices in independent film.

On the Adobe Premiere Pro Facebook page, we’ll be live streaming interviews all week with filmmakers such as Mel Jones and Chris Mena (Leimert Park), Titanic Sinclair (I Am Poppy), Gingger Shankar and Cody Lucich (AKICITA: The Battle of Standing Rock) and more. Make sure to follow us for alerts on when we’ll be going live.

We have a lot more going on at Sundance, too! Keep reading to see the events we’ll be hosting and how you can join us.
