Say hello to FrameMaker (2019 release)!

Fast. Powerful. Future-ready. FrameMaker 2019.

FrameMaker 2019 release is designed to make your content creation and publishing experience even faster, more responsive, and more delightful. Here are some exciting new features and improvements coming to the world’s most advanced technical writing tool.

Table of Contents

Down to the core. The FrameMaker Platform Update.

The FrameMaker 2019 release is probably the biggest, most fundamental and most comprehensive update that the FrameMaker platform ever got in one release. Enjoy a future-ready, cutting-edge experience that supports all the latest technologies.

Up to new heights. Our next-generation PDF Engine.

The new PDF generation framework gives you the best looking PDFs. And total control on how you want to publish it. With the new PDF engine, FrameMaker 2019 creates PDFs “natively.” The PDF generation process does not go through printing to PostScript and Acrobat Distiller anymore. The new PDF engine is based on Adobe’s modern PDF Library – the same that is also used by other Adobe products like Adobe InDesign. The Publish pod now has PDF as one of the publishing formats.

One of the big benefits of moving PDF creation option within Publish pod is that once you have configured the publish settings for PDF output, the same settings can be used to generate multiple PDFs. Also, the settings are stored in an sts file, which can be shared with other users to ensure you maintain a consistent looking PDFs across your organization, or the same sts file can be used with Adobe FrameMaker Publishing Server (2019 release). PDFs generated with 2019 release will have better 508 compliance than previous ones and ensure greater accessibility.

With love to details. For a better FrameMaker experience.

The FrameMaker 2019 release brings a lot of enhancements. For an experience that stands apart. We love Germany. And Switzerland. And now also Austria. Like Duden.

Say Hello to DUDEN! For high-end spellchecking and hyphenation.

FrameMaker 2019 introduces support for DUDEN-based spellchecking and hyphenation. This has been a customer ask for quite a few releases for the European market.

The new DUDEN engine offers support for 1996 and 2006 spelling reforms. You can set up the spellchecking engine to use the DUDEN general engine, a conservative engine, a press engine or a tolerant engine. And for hyphenation, you can configure the DUDEN engine to hyphenate “all but unaesthetic,“ “aesthetic,” or “preferred aesthetic.” We go into the details of this in a later blog post sometime soon.

And: FrameMaker 2019 introduces support for Austrian German for the first time in the history of FrameMaker.

Happy with the classic Hunspell Dictionaries and Hyphenation Engines? They are still available as well.

Images and illustrations. Better and faster than ever before.

One of the areas of focus for 2019 release has been to improve the image handling capabilities in FrameMaker. Be the first to take advantage of Google’s new WebP image format. Creating stunning visuals with the new image transparency feature. Fit images to frames or vice versa easily – proportionally if you like, of course. Easily import 100’s of images in one go – super fast. And scroll through graphic-heavy FrameMaker documents smoothly.

DITA? Make it YOUR DITA.

Over the years significant investment has been made towards improving XML/DITA experience in Framemaker. 2019 release features such as Smoother XML authoring experience, effortless EDD creation, new packager technology, support for XSLT 3.0 and DITA-OT 3.0 would further aid in making the experience of customers better when using FrameMaker for authoring and publishing content in DITA or custom XML format. Not only would the file opening time be better for DITA specific files but also the new XML/Structured workspace makes it much easier to work with XML files. Some highlights below.

Share your point. Or manage experiences. Or both.

Share your point. Work seemlessly with Microsoft SharePoint Online

FrameMaker 2019 now comes with support for Microsoft SharePoint 2016 or SharePoint Online. With FrameMaker 2019 you can now easily connect to SharePoint 2016 or Sharepoint Online apart from older versions of SharePoint that were supported in earlier versions of FrameMaker. Just set up the connection in the Connection Manager and you are ready to go. You can use your Enterprise or Retail login.

Adobe Experience Manager 6.4 was recently released, and FrameMaker 2019 supports connecting with AEM 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, and XML Documentation for Adobe Experience Manager, version 3.0 and above. XML Documentation Add-on is Adobe’s DITA CCMS.

Wait. There’s even more.
