What’s Coming to Dreamweaver in 2019?

Here’s a quick recap of what we shipped with Adobe Dreamweaver in 2018 — Bootstrap 4 support, enhanced SFTP support for enterprises, JavaScript refactoring, EcmaScript 6 support, new CEF, and more. Busy year, you’d agree. We thank you for your continued feedback and engagement through 2018, which helped shape some of what we shipped during the year.

That said, let’s shift gears and focus on 2019. We have — wait for it — another busy year ahead of us. Here are some key highlights and our thoughts on what we plan to do in 2019:

Live View enhancements

We’ve often heard how hard it is to edit text in Live View. In 2019, we’ll look to ease this pain by attempting to turn text editing into a seamless and non-taxing workflow.

Embrace modern web

• Ensuring that a web developer is successful with Dreamweaver is central to what we do. To enable this, we plan to make several improvements to how PHP currently works with DW, specifically code coloring, formatting, jump-to variable, and more.
• CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap undergo rapid changes, shipping updates fairly frequently. We are committed to supporting the latest versions of Bootstrap with Dreamweaver. And we’ll look to do so in the least disruptive way by allowing you to “soft update” the supported Bootstrap version in Dreamweaver without needing a reinstall of the app.

Address long-standing issues with developer productivity

• Code formatting is one area on which we’ve heard a significant volume of feedback. In 2019, one of our primary goals is to address some of these concerns and make Dreamweaver the first-choice tool for web design and development. Web designers who code would then be able to maintain, organize, and format more efficiently than ever.
• Find & Replace: We’ve heard feedback with respect to accessibility and performance, and these are concerns we’ll look to address in the coming year.

All these updates plus lots more are in the pipeline with Dreamweaver.
