Lighting Up Adobe Offices Around the World with Diwali

Adobe employees around the world recently celebrated Diwali, the annual festival that originated in Hinduism and marks the victory of good over evil. We commemorated the holiday with food, dancing, art and more at eight Adobe offices across the globe.

We invited Ravi Sharma, Manager, Employee Communications India, to share his perspective on the Diwali celebrations.

There are festivals and then there is Diwali. Celebrated in October or November at the onset of winter, the festival of lights is a spectacle of devotion and frenzied excitement. This miraculous holiday has transcended race and religion and is celebrated all over the world with great pomp and gusto.

Diwali originated in popular Hinduism and commemorates the return of the incarnate god Rama to his home of Ayodhya after an exile of 14 years, during which he defeated the demon Ravana in the popular epic, The Ramayana. Some regional Indian tales also associate Diwali with the life events of the incarnate god Krishna. All in all, Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, and good over evil.

This year, Adobe offices around the world celebrated this fantastical festival in their own ways. Adobe Noida held a delightful carnival, Adobe Bangalore put on an exciting Rangoli design competition — where patterns are created on the floor using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals — and various Adobe sites in the U.S. hosted their own celebrations filled with food and laughter. Here in Noida, employees decorated their workspaces with colors, lights and other adornments, including elaborate Rangoli designs adorned with flower petals. Employees indulged in the Diwali spirit and put on their creative hats to decorate their spaces with themes ranging from Adobe For All to WhatsApp emojis.

At the evening carnival, the office lawn and outer gardens were embellished with flowers, oil lamps and candles. Cut design canopies covered the lawn sky. A fusion music band performed for the audience while employees enjoyed delectable snacks and posed for pictures. There was also an “experience zone” set up with caricature artists, spray tattoo artists, a tarot card reader and several gaming stalls where hula hoops, cards, and dart boards kept everyone busy.

Employees had a wonderful time with their friends and family – the quintessential Diwali and Adobe For All spirit that brings people together.
