My story from starting as an intern to filing a patent at Adobe
Contributed by Aishwarya Asesh, Data Scientist
Coming from a strictly non-engineering background, the very idea of being an engineer was not instilled in me when I was growing up. Instead, I grew up with an interest in gadgets and games. These interests ultimately made me want a computer and in the due time, this curiosity paved the way for undergraduate studies in the field of Computer Science. Since then, Computer Science taught me to perceive the world differently. The versatile nature of the field and its numerous applications in the real world fascinated me and through innovation, engineers continue to revolutionize the way we live. This was something I knew I could, and wanted, to be a part of.
Flash forward to the Summer of 2017, where I started as a Data Science Intern at Adobe. This internship helped me build the foundation for my future career by giving me the opportunity to learn so many new skills. Each day at work was so rewarding, and meeting new people helped fuel my creativity. On the day of our Intern Project Expo, showcasing my project in front of Adobe’s CEO, and the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Adobe’s Digital Experience business was a lifetime experience. It made me realize the impact of my work and value everything we do at Adobe.
After finishing my internship and soon after completing my graduate studies, I found myself back at Adobe working as a full-fledged Data Scientist. As a new graduate hire, you are always on the lookout for challenging opportunities, and at Adobe I was given the opportunity to work on a core data science product. To be honest, it’s not always rainbows and sunshine—the work is hard! But it’s work like this that helps us come out of our comfort zones and really learn and grow. One of the most gratifying things for a creator/engineer/artist is to breathe life into an idea and see it became a reality, and with my work at Adobe, I see this happen all the time. Through my work here, I am fortunate to have a Patent filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office! It has been an awesome experience to be a part of Data Science Engineering team that provides the perfect environment where I’m intellectually pushed to be the best.
From being one of the few interns to showcase an intern project to the CEO and EVP of Digital Experience, to being one of the youngest to file a patent, it has been an amazing journey here at Adobe. I can say with utmost certainty that for anyone who wants to join Adobe, that they’re in for an amazing ride. The culture and environment you get at Adobe will inspire you with positive vibes and makes you realize that anything is possible.
