- FrameMaker 2019 – Update 3
What’s new and better
The primary focus for Update 4 was towards fixing bugs and issues which have been reported by users. We have also added a new feature for users using Adobe Experience Manager with FrameMaker.
Automatically check out files on saving or opening in Adobe Experience Manager
We have added a new option in the in Adobe Experience Manager CMS Connector preferences. Now you can choose to check out files on opening or saving automatically. To Enable auto-checkout, choose Edit → Preferences, and select CMS → Adobe Experience Manager in the Preferences dialog.
Added a new flag to control image scaling in a table cell
Many users have asked us to implement a feature that allows you to control if an image is scaled down to the cell/column width when importing it into a table cell. Or always import the image at 100% size into the table cell, even if it does not fit into the cell. With Update 4, we have added this possibility. You can now add a new flag in the user’s maker.ini to control this value.
How to control in FrameMaker if an image is scaled or not during import into a table cell:
- If you have FrameMaker open, close it.
- Open the FrameMaker User folder:
C:\Users\{Your Windows User Name}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\15
- Alternatively, you can copy and paste this address into the Windows Explorer address bar and hit Return:
%appadata%\Adobe\FrameMaker\15
- Open the file
maker.ini
in a plain text editor like Windows Notepad. - Go to the section
[Preference]
. - Add a new line at the end of the [Preference] section:
AutoScaleImageInTableCell=On
– When importing an image into a table cell, FrameMaker scales down the image, if the width of the image is wider than the table cells width.AutoScaleImageInTableCell=Off
– When importing an image into a table cell, the image is never scaled and imported at 100%, even if it does not fit into the table cell. If the image does not fit, parts of the image become invisible. You can scale down the image manually to the required size.
Authoring related fixes and enhancements
With Update 4, we have also addressed a couple of issues in the area of authoring:
- While working with dates in Japanese documents, FrameMaker was using an incorrect era.
- The Projects list on the Welcome Screen did sometimes not show the recently opened projects.
- In some cases, the custom color definitions did not show correctly in the Custom Ruling and Shading pod.
- Changing the Tab Stops on a specific paragraph in the paragraph designer applied the change on all paragraphs using the same style. Now the change is only applied to the current paragraph.
- In a highly structured document with deep nesting of elements, the breadcrumb bar did not show the complete path to the current element, and the path was “cut off” at the right. We have added two buttons on the right side of the breadcrumb bar so that you can “scroll” through even very long structures.
Publishing related fixes
With Update 4, we have also addressed a couple of issues in the area of publishing:
- The DOCTYPE definition for Basic HTML output was not valid.
- A black border was added for PNG images in the PDF output generated through the Adobe Acrobat Distiller route.
- The original height and width property for images were not retained in the final output even if the required configurations were made in the Publish settings.
Other enhancements and fixes
Some users had reported some random crashes. We have looked into them and fixed them. We have also fixed a couple of translation/localization related issues.
