Adobe Employees Unite During Hispanic Heritage Month

With the many ethnicities that fall under the umbrella term “Hispanic” — from Venezuelan and Puerto Rican to Cuban and Mexican — come a huge range of identities and experiences.

In honor of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month “Siempre Unidos” (“Always United”) theme, we asked members of our Adobe Hispanic/LatinX (HOLA) Employee Network to tell us their stories of togetherness. Read on to see how we’re always united, no matter where we come from.

Eduardo Vargas Torres

Eduardo Vargas Torres, Software Engineer, has learned a lot about different Hispanic cultures at Adobe. HOLA in our Austin office recently held a talk about Mexican art and its impact on the city. By learning about other Hispanic cultures outside of his own Costa Rican heritage, Eduardo can easily see the strong connections between them. Eduardo said he’s proud that Adobe hosts events that allow employees to learn from each other and understand other cultures.

“Each Hispanic country has their own culture but at the same time we think of each other as a big ‘familia,’” he said.

Angela Escobedo

Angela Escobedo, Financial Analyst, has learned a lot about other Hispanic cultures through HOLA events — especially through the food.

“Since being a part of HOLA, I have expanded my taste buds and tried some amazing foods such as churrasco, chipá, and empanadas,” she shared. “Each dish is representative of someone’s culture and upbringing.” Angela emphasized that HOLA creates an inclusive space that welcomes all.

“Through our diversity, we make up a unique group of people that remains united and inclusive. As we continue to grow as a company, we will always welcome new employees with open arms,” she said.

Dej Mejia

Dej Mejia, Senior User Experience Designer, grew up in a part of New Jersey where she had many opportunities to learn about Hispanic cultures outside of her own Dominican heritage. Joining HOLA has helped deepen her understanding of Hispanic cultures even more.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, the Austin Mexic-Arte Museum held a lunch and learn session on the rich Hispanic presence in Texas, something Dej really enjoyed.

“The Austin Mexic-Arte Museum’s insights on how the Hispanic community is woven into the fabric of Texas were eye-opening,” Dej shared. She also enjoyed how a mix of Hispanic and non-Hispanic employees attended the event, showing how cultural events like this can impact employees of all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Celebrating Together

We’ve already had some amazing events this Hispanic Heritage Month! In San Francisco, HOLA hosted a celebration with a mojito bar, mariachi, and delicious food. We also featured a “mercado” (“market”) of local, Hispanic-owned businesses selling their wares.

“HOLA is really big on giving back to the community and giving back to Hispanic and Latinx businesses,” said HOLA member Archy Posada. Our party in San Jose boasted live music, Aztec dancers, delicious food, and a trivia game on Hispanic cultures and history.
