Introducing Adobe Photoshop Camera

By Abhay Parasnis, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

AI-first camera app that brings Photoshop magic to the palm of your hand.

Smartphones and social media have fundamentally changed the way people of all skill levels create and share their own stories. And while the industry has pushed the limits on the hardware side, software magic has been limited. We believe the world is ready for the next chapter, where it’s not just about more mega-pixels, but how you can tell your story in a unique way.

Given our mission to empower creativity for all, today we’re excited to introduce Adobe Photoshop Camera, an app that re-imagines what’s possible with smartphone photography. Photoshop Camera is a new, AI-powered mobile camera app that brings incredible Photoshop magic directly to the point of capture. It’s available now as a preview for iOS and Android devices and targeted for general availability in 2020.

Adobe has a long history of delivering breakthrough experiences for creatives. And for the past several years, we’ve leveraged the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver amazing features to the creative community through Adobe Sensei, our AI platform and framework. We built Photoshop Camera as a Sensei-first app on our journey to expand our focus to deliver creative tools for everyone.

With Photoshop Camera you can capture, edit, and share stunning photos and moments – both natural and creative – using real-time Photoshop-grade magic right from the viewfinder, leaving you free to focus on storytelling with powerful tools and effects. Leveraging Adobe Sensei intelligence, the app can instantly recognize the subject in your photo and provide recommendations, and automatically apply sophisticated, unique features at the moment of capture _(i.e. portraits, landscapes, selfies, food shots), _while always preserving an original shot. It also understands the technical content (_i.e. dynamic range, tonality, scene-type, face regions) _of the photo and automatically applies complex adjustments.

But even more, our new app also unlocks the power of the creative community by allowing users to access a curated feed of lenses made by well-known artists and influencers. This includes chart topper Billie Eilish, who’s helped inspire creativity in a new generation of the creative community. Working with Billie – who believes creativity is at the center of everything she does – we created some really cool limited-edition lenses inspired by her songs and music videos. It’s so easy and simple – anyone can use them to express themselves through the app.

Photoshop Camera is a major moment in our journey to broaden Adobe Creative Cloud as a creativity platform for all. We are committed to investing in accessible tools like Photoshop Camera built for the next generation of consumers and creatives. Innovation and pushing the limits of creative expression have always been core to Adobe’s DNA. We are a company that sits at the intersection of deep science and the art of storytelling, and Photoshop Camera is a great example of our work to democratize creativity. I couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. Sign up for the preview here and stay tuned for more updates on Photoshop Camera coming soon!
