How Adobe uses login.gov to improve government citizen service delivery.

The General Services Administration (GSA) is an independent agency of the United States government. It was established in 1949 to help manage and support the basic functioning of federal agencies and improve their mission service delivery to government customers. One of their strategic goals is to improve the way federal agencies buy, build and use technology.

As part of an ongoing digital transformation and customer experience (CX) movement, government organizations at all levels are providing more options and making it easier for their customers to work with them online. Examples include modernizing public facing websites and digitizing paper based forms for program application or information collection, both of which are key areas identified in the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act (IDEA).

GSA recognized that online transactions require strong authentication, and every agency shouldn’t have to manage their own systems. In response, they created a single sign-on shared service solution for external users working with government, and it’s called login.gov. Over 17 million people are already using login.gov for over 60 different online applications from 17 agencies.

Adobe Experience Manager Integration

At our recent Adobe Digital Government Technology Conference, we announced that Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) now integrates with login.gov. This means that external users of AEM-powered federal government websites do not need to create and remember yet another username and password. Now these government websites, including those with electronic forms and other transactions, can leverage this shared service for single-sign on.

There are significant benefits of this integration to both government agencies and the public they serve.

For agencies, they do not need to maintain their own credentialing system or manage another security accreditation for identity and access management (IAM). GSA’s login.gov is a FedRAMP authorized cloud service, and dedicated teams of design and security experts at GSA are always working to continuously improve it. It also helps agencies save time and money as login.gov handles software development, security operations, and customer support. This frees up government agencies to focus on their missions while reducing costs and improving security.

For end users, with one login.gov account, we can sign into multiple government agencies and use the same username and password that other government websites use, including the trusted traveler programs such as CBP Global Entry – all protected with two factor authentication.

It’s a win-win for government and tax payers!
