Adobe Spark and Adobe Creative Cloud Now Integrate With Canvas LMS to Help Educators and Students Easily Explore and Engage in Creativity

Students studying, reading, and interacting with technology to help them.

Adobe is excited to offer integration between Canvas, a leading learning management system (LMS) for K–12 and higher education, and Adobe’s key creative tools — Spark and Creative Cloud.

This means that millions of students and educators can access their creative tools and projects more quickly and easily than ever, right inside the LMS they use every day.

Simplifying access to Adobe tools through Canvas

By integrating Spark and Creative Cloud with Canvas, Adobe is providing access to essential learning tools in an environment where teachers and students are already spending a great deal of their time. Educators use Canvas to assign homework and other projects, receive and review student assignments, and enter grades — and students use Canvas to access discussion boards, syllabi, announcements, and more.

Now, at schools that have Spark licenses, everyone can sign in and access Spark right from Canvas. Educators can create assignments using Spark, starting with templates or open-ended web pages, videos, or graphics. They can enter assignment names, add instructions for students, and send Spark assignments through Canvas, where students can make copies of them, open them in Spark online, complete them, and turn them in with a few clicks. The Spark assignments will be frozen at the time of submission, and educators can easily view and comment on them in Canvas Speedgrader.

Adobe Spark has been a great addition to Canvas and gives teachers another engaging tool to promote student learning. I love the ease of setting up assignments inside Canvas with Adobe Spark and the ability for teachers to view and grade projects inside the Speedgrader. Turning in a Spark project is now easy and simple inside Canvas.

At schools that have Creative Cloud licenses, educators and students can access their Creative Cloud apps through Canvas as well. They can sign in, see the apps that are available to them, and get started on their creative journey.

The value of Creative Cloud and Spark for education

Research has made it clear that creativity is a critical skill for today’s students. A 2010 IBM study identified creativity as the single most important leadership competency for enterprises seeking to confront the challenge of escalating global complexity. A 2016 World Economic Forum study listed creativity as one of the top three skills students need to thrive in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution.” And a just-released LinkedIn study listed creativity as the skill companies need most in 2020.

“This integration will open new opportunities to expand students’ learning outcomes with respect to creativity and digital fluency. Students and instructors can now easily engage with Adobe creative apps embedded right within the LMS environment that they interact with every day.”

Marcio A. Oliveira Assistant Vice President, Academic Technology & Innovation University of Maryland

Creative Cloud delivers a complete set of industry-standard apps and services that empower students and educators to create professional-quality communications, including photographs, illustrations, infographics, layouts, animations, videos, web and mobile experiences, and more.

Adobe Spark — part of Creative Cloud, but also available as a separate license that’s free for education customers — offers simple tools that make it easy for students to create beautifully designed research papers, essays, posters, presentations, graphics, and short videos for any class. Educators can use Spark to create their own class materials and assignment templates as well.

By creating assignments and projects that involve using Spark and Creative Cloud, educators can build their students’ digital literacy as well as essential soft skills the modern workplace demands, including creativity, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration.
