How Adobe India is Creating Opportunity for People with Disabilities

Worldwide, Adobe has been recognized for its efforts to create a diverse and inclusive workplace. Forbes named us one of their Best Employers for Diversity in 2019, ranking us at no. 32, making Adobe as one of the top 7% of the 500 employers recognized. Bloomberg included us as one of the 325 companies in this year’s GEI (Gender Equality Index) for our efforts to advance women in the workplace through measurement and transparency. Lastly, for the seventh year in a row, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation gave us a perfect score of 100 on their 2020 Corporate Equality Index. Through this score, Adobe earned the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

Adobe India has been a champion partner in our worldwide efforts to keep this momentum going. From organizing the largest ever Adobe For All Summit for India, APAC & Japan to having gender neutral washrooms in our facilities, we ensure people feel included and engaged at all times.

One such initiative the talent team runs at Adobe India is the Intern Program for persons with disabilities. Currently in its second year, this program hires interns with disabilities from different colleges across India and gives them an opportunity to work in a corporate environment for six months. This year, these interns were embedded in different engineering teams and the IT division. We chatted with a few of the interns to hear about their experience. Here’s what they said.

Anubhav Rajput, Tech Intern

“During this six-month internship I have improved my communication, coding, thinking and logic application skills. Before joining Adobe, I had never even heard about the Scala language. I learnt Python & Scala languages here & even got to work on Maven! This was the best experience I could have asked for!”

Pragati Kesharwani, Product Intern

“As a product intern, I had an enriching technical experience. I got great support from the manager, mentor, and team members. I was amazed to be surrounded by so many knowledgeable and talented people! My manager supported me to bridge the gap from learning theoretical concepts to their real time application. Also, the university talent team conducted regular sessions on a variety of development topics, such as how to present effectively, how to improve interview skills and the fundamentals of communication. Everything I learned will really help me in the future.”

“Just like every engineering student, I also had dreams of starting my career with one of the best companies. Interning at Adobe was a dream come true! It’s one of the greatest learning opportunities I’ve had so far. That productive, uncomfortable terrain located just beyond our current abilities, where our reach exceeds our grasp, struggling in certain targeted ways, operating at the edges of our ability, where we make mistakes – makes us smarter. That’s when we learn valuable skills – which is exactly what Adobe helped me with!”
