Sungwon Hong ended up at Adobe after the company acquired Macromedia in 2005. It wasn’t what she had planned, but it turned out to be such a happy accident.
In that time at Adobe Seoul, her career has developed dramatically. She began as an application server engineer supporting enterprise customers who used Adobe’s server products. Next, she moved to a presales engineer role for Flex and Flash, working mainly with enterprise customers who integrated flash technology to enterprise system. After that, she became a solution consultant in support of e-learning and PDF solutions for customers in the education market, from primary school through university. Today, Sungwon is a senior enterprise solutions consultant in charge of Digital Media solutions including Photoshop, Illustrator and Document Cloud.
“As a solution consultant, I engage with customers and help them to solve their problems with Adobe solutions. “Sungwon says. “I also collaborate with sales team to deliver Adobe values to customers and close enterprise deals.”
Today, she supports customers throughout Korea and has worked with the Samsung account for the last nine years.
“Adobe has provided me new opportunities to work in different roles whenever I wanted, and that has helped me to grow and develop my career while staying at Adobe,” Sungwon says.
Another perk: the culture of diversity. Prior to joining Adobe, Sungwon worked at a different company as a technician but had very few female colleagues. At Adobe, female representation in the technical ranks is much better, which brings better diversity of thought and has been shown to boost performance. Plus, it ensures that women in tech have more women role modeling what success looks like.
For Sungwon, success looks like constantly evolving her career while staying in touch with her tech roots.
“People are often surprised to learn that I’m in charge of a design product like Illustrator,” she says. “People don’t know that I started out as a developer and still love to code.”
