“If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.”

I am Parth Gupta from Kanpur, India. I have completed my Integrated Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. And this month, I joined Adobe as a Member of the Technical Staff on the Adobe PDF Print Engine team. Let me tell you about my experience from starting out as an intern and joining as an employee.

Starting my Adobe journey as an intern

Adobe! Everyone must have heard about this company at some point in their life, be it for using a PDF or editing an image with Photoshop. My journey with Adobe goes back to May 2019, when I interned on the Adobe Research team in the Big Data Experience Lab.

I’ll never forget my first day as an Adobe Intern. We kicked-off the day with Adobe Life Orientation, where we learned about the company culture, core values, history, and business strategy. Soon after, I got to meet with my mentors and new teammates, where we immediately dove into our work so that we could develop our internship project! We were assigned to examine cold start analytics, where we explored multiple scenarios of cold start problems for about two weeks to help us develop our research project. The process of working with my colleagues to come up with a problem statement was such an invaluable experience, because it gave us in-depth knowledge about the existing research and it really drove home that we were working on a challenging and unique problem.

During the course of my internship, I also realized early on that Adobe provides plenty of opportunities for growth and development. During the internship I learned so many things, ranging from technical to soft skills, which increased my confidence greatly. Not only that, the work my colleagues and I accomplished was also filed for a patent and was accepted into the poster track at The Web Conference 2020 in Taipei! I will say that those three months as an Adobe Intern were some of the best months of my life.

From intern to employee

I believe that starting your first job is one of the most memorable moments in everyone’s life, and it is a time filled with lots of excitement, change, and mettle. Not to mention that after the COVID-19 outbreak in India, I was anxious about the onboarding process. However, the entire pre-onboarding and onboarding process experience were seamless even during these unprecedented times.

Because I started out as an intern in 2019, it’s definitely been a unique experience onboarding as an employee virtually. However, I can confidently say that the Adobe Talent team has truly kept us involved and connected to our fellow university graduates. For example, during the onboarding process, we were divided into different teams and were tasked with creating our own business name, logo and mascot. My team had a great time collaborating and it showed us that it was possible even virtually.

In order to get to know my new teammates even better, we also took part in events like virtual scavenger hunts, trivia nights and more. It’s been a blast so far, and I’m very excited to start my professional career at Adobe. I could not have hoped for a better virtual onboarding experience amidst the pandemic and I’m looking forward to learning, creating, and innovating with Adobe!
