Adobe Firefly Generative AI & Adobe Express to inspire millions to create in partnership with Google

Creators never cease to amaze us: since we launched the Adobe Firefly beta in March, you’ve made it one of the most successful beta launches in Adobe’s 40-year history and generated more than 70 million images in the first month to get inspired, complete their creative projects, explore ideas or just have fun. Meanwhile we’re seeing creators at all skill levels do amazing things with Adobe Express, our all-in-one content creation app that makes it fast, easy and fun to design and share standout social media posts, videos, images, PDFs, flyers, logos and more.

Generate an image with Firefly directly in Bard by Google

Today we announced that we’re bringing Firefly to Bard by Google with the ability to continue your creative journey in Adobe Express, to inspire millions of people to create. In the coming months, Firefly will power and highlight text-to-image capabilities in Google’s experimental conversational AI service, with the ability to continue your creative journey further in Express. Users of all skill levels will be able to describe their vision to Bard in their own words to create Firefly generated images directly in Bard.

After you generate an image with Firefly, you will have the ability to edit and further modify it using Express, making it easy to create standout content with inspiration from Express’s beautiful, high-quality collection of templates, fonts, Stock images and assets.

Say, for example, you’re opening a yoga studio and want to create a social media ad for new customers. You can get inspired by asking Bard to generate an image like a “giraffe doing a yoga pose.” You can then use Express and a ready-to-go template (or create something from scratch) with your new image as a centerpiece and quickly modify it with easy-to-use editing tools in Express. You can then post directly to your social media channels from Express!

Unlike any other generative AI tool available today, Firefly is the most differentiated generative AI service, designed to generate images that are safe to use in commercial settings once the model is out of public beta — free from copyrighted materials like popular cartoon characters and branded content. Firefly is trained on hundreds of millions of professional- grade, licensed images in Adobe Stock — among the highest quality licensed images in the market — along with openly licensed content and public domain content where the copyright has expired. Enterprise businesses will be able to train Firefly with their own creative collateral in order to generate content in the company’s brand language. The integration of Firefly across Adobe Experience Cloud applications will allow marketing organizations to use Firefly to accelerate their content supply chain production.

Adobe uses the Content Authenticity Initiative’s (CAI) open-source technology to bring transparency to the images generated via Firefly in Bard, empowering creators to tell their stories authentically while providing a verification for how and where content was created and modified. Assets created with Firefly – including those created via Bard – have CAI-powered Content Credentials attached. Content Credentials are like digital “nutrition labels” that are automatically attached to a piece of content and contain information like what model was used to generate it. This will tell you if an image was created by a human or generated with AI.

In addition to being open source, CAI is rapidly becoming an industry standard with a wide group of members behind it. In fact, it just surpassed 1000 members among the global tech companies, media outlets, camera manufacturers, news publishers, creative professionals, researchers, NGOs and many others who participate in the initiative. Adobe founded CAI in 2019 to protect creators and content consumers by promoting adoption of open industry standards for content attribution.

Adobe is designing Firefly from the ground up to be embeddable into creators’ existing workflows across Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Document Cloud, Adobe Experience Cloud and Adobe Express, wherever content is created and modified.
