Read more about Corinne
Corinne Smith, who goes by Critty Smitty, is an Oakland-based Black, Queer, multimedia artist exploring the cultivation of joy and embodiment amidst sadness, grief, loss, and the mysteries of inherent (un)knowing. Her first solo exhibition “Silene Capensis” is currently on show at San Francisco’s Museum of the African Diaspora, where she is an awardee of their emerging artists program. The exhibition includes her work “Lilit and Isis + Nephthys Reunite in the Astral Garden,” which focuses on dream symbolism and spiritual messaging. Working with the decolonized herbalist and curandera Atava Garcia Swiecicki, founder of the Ancestral Apothecary School, Critty Smitty practices dream reentry, lucid dreaming, and journeying to excavate imagery, connect with her ancestry, and understand messaging received in the subconscious realm. You can also catch a glimpse of Critty Smitty’s work throughout the Bay Area, as community/public arts are a large part of her practice.
