After a whirlwind first month, EMEA interns share what they’ve learned at Adobe
The first month of this year’s Adobe EMEA internship program was packed with activities and opportunities to experience #AdobeLife. More than 150 interns across the UK, Ireland, Romania, France, Germany, and Switzerland took part in a series of unique events created especially for interns including a two-day onboarding session, an intern welcome lunch, a masterclass on business conversations, and roadshows with opportunities to meet various Adobe leaders. Interns also worked closely with their teams and jumped right into exciting new projects.
To get an intern’s-eye-view of the experience, we talked to two members of this year’s cohort.
Ellie Taylor on seizing opportunities and the best parts of her internship so far
Ellie Taylor is honing her creativity and business skills during a 12-month internship with the communications team in London.
Looking back on your first month as an intern, what have you learned about work life at Adobe?
I’ve learned to embrace every single opportunity given, no matter how hard the challenge. I love how Adobe treats interns like fulltime employees from the get-go. It has made the experience so much more beneficial.
What have you discovered about yourself?
The vice president of marketing for EMEA told me to “embrace your unique self” at a meet-and-greet, and I’ve strived to achieve this ever since. He told me that our differences are our biggest superpowers, and that’s what drives the company.
What’s your favorite experience so far?
Getting involved in a team setting and meeting so many talented people. My team immediately made me feel so welcome.
What advice would you give to someone just starting a career?
Have a growth mindset, ask as many questions as possible, take interest in every activity, and always get involved.
Razvan Ilie on learning every day and getting out of your comfort zone
Razvan Ilie is one month into his six-month internship with the engineering team in Bucharest.
What have you learned about life as an engineer during the first month of your internship?
I was overwhelmed at the beginning. I think this is normal, but now I know that the terminal is not a black box I should be afraid of, and building and maintaining Kubernetes clusters is not so scary after all. I watched how powerful a good monitoring platform can be and how important compliance trainings are. I also learned about Ethos, the internal cloud platform.
Any thoughts on how to get the most out of an Adobe internship?
This first month at Adobe made me understand that every day is learning day, that everyone has a story to tell, and that office events are the best way for me to meet impressive people.
What’s been the best experience of your internship so far?
My favorite experience so far was participating at the charitable event organized for SOS Children’s Villages. Over 40 Adobe employees helped by clearing bushes, painting curbs, and planting flowers, all while having a great time chatting with the kids. The best part was certainly seeing the children’s smiles when they were eating with us.
Do you have any advice for students getting ready to launch their careers?
My advice would be to network and learn. If you are eager enough to learn something every day and you get out of your comfort zone to go to events and meet new people, there is no way in the end you will not have the necessary knowledge and the connections to start your career. Push each other to success. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
