The ocean makes all life on Earth possible. The team at Seabin Project, who know the importance of the ocean more than most, are working to reduce the plastic pollution in oceans around the world and change community behaviour.

Their mission is simple: to live in a world without the need for Seabins. What started with the simple idea of ‘if there are rubbish bins on land, why not in the water’ has since grown into a global research, technology, and educational initiative.

Seabin Project needed the right technology and software to help them achieve its goal "to clean up 100 cities by 2050", says Seabin CEO & Co-Founder Pete Ceglinski. Adobe Acrobat Pro DC has played a crucial role in Seabin Project's ability to work smarter, streamline processes and focus on what matters most: cleaning up our oceans.

1. Signed, sealed, delivered

Using Acrobat Sign, Seabin Project has been able to digitise documents for all tasks, from sharing documents internally to communicating important data externally.

Quote from Operations and Experience at Seabin, Tom Batrouney: "We can open a document on the iPad, on a computer, on our phone, we can sign it, flick it off and it's done. It makes our lives very easy."

The company collects real-time data by emptying bins and documenting the contents electronically. From here, the findings are recorded digitally and shared with key stakeholders.

“The biggest thing Adobe Acrobat helps us do is signing and sending off documents all over the world within a couple of seconds,” says Tom Batrouney, who works in Operations and Experience at Seabin.

With teams spread from Sydney to Spain, LA to Finland, getting a document signed by more than one person would typically take over a week. Using Acrobat, the Seabin team "can open a document on the iPad, on a computer, on our phone, we can sign it, flick it off and it's done. It makes our lives very easy," says Batrouney.

2. Staying focused on solutions, not problems

According to Ceglinski, the Seabin Project strives to "change human behaviour and conquer cities", but it is no easy feat. Being a solution-focused and solution-based organisation means Seabin needs streamlined and efficient processes.

Every day, the Seabin Project team handles a diverse range of documents, from data reports to contracts and legal documents or marketing materials. Within these documents, they often need to share sensitive information. Instead of requiring a different program to view, print, sign and share, Acrobat helps them to streamline all these processes in one place.

The speed, efficiency and security that Acrobat provides means they can spend less time organising paper documents and following manual processes and more time collecting marine rubbish and advocating for change. With password protect, Seabin is able to share confidential information securely and safely.

3. Putting their money where their mouth is

“At Seabin, we are activists, we’re environmentalists, we’re solving environmental problems, and I guess for us, we need to look at our business holistically,” says Ceglinski.

As a company fighting for ocean conservation and protection, the team needs work processes to reduce its emissions and the pollution that makes its way into the ocean.

Adobe Acrobat has allowed Seabin to function with paperless processes ensuring they create, collaborate and communicate in a way that supports their mission of cleaner oceans.

4. Filling the knowledge gap

Through their work, Seabin is raising awareness of ocean pollution and its environmental impact. Having a digitised workflow means that employees can collate and input data in real-time and share instantly.

Sharing this data is crucial to Seabin's mission. "We're on a mission to fill the knowledge gap so that we don't have to be ignorant towards the issue of plastic pollution in our waterways," says Batrouney.
