Acrobat AI Assistant: Creating the future of AI with Japan’s ISMAP registration
As compliance remains a priority and an ongoing effort at Adobe, we are happy to announce that Adobe Acrobat AI Assistant, our innovative generative AI feature, has completed the Information System Security Management and Assessment Program (ISMAP) framework and is officially registered in the ISMAP Registry as of April 28, 2025.
Following Adobe’s first ISMAP registration for Adobe Document Cloud in 2023, this milestone marks the first time an Adobe AI feature has received this prestigious registration, setting the stage for further advancements in AI-driven document management solutions within Japan’s public sector.
The Japanese government first introduced the ISMAP framework in June 2020 to enhance the security of its cloud service procurement. By pre-evaluating and registering cloud services that meet stringent security standards, ISMAP helps streamline the seamless adoption of cloud solutions across government agencies.
About Acrobat AI Assistant
Acrobat AI Assistant's ISMAP registration represents a significant step forward in our ongoing mission to provide cutting-edge technology to Japanese government agencies. As a first-of-its-kind AI feature in the ISMAP Registry, Acrobat AI Assistant introduces powerful capabilities for efficiently interacting with documents.
Users can now engage with their documents by asking questions and receiving precise, tailored responses with the information they need. Acrobat AI Assistant supports contracts, meeting transcripts, and other documents in PDF, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint formats — and is now available in Japanese. One of the standout features of Acrobat AI Assistant is its ability to simplify complex documents by highlighting key details, making comparisons easier, and providing responses with clickable citations that direct users to specific points within their documents. By helping users stay focused on what matters and saving valuable time, it is an essential tool for boosting workplace productivity.
Ensuring compliance through the Adobe Common Control Framework (CCF)
With the rise of generative AI and the increasing demand for robust cybersecurity governance, Acrobat AI Assistant aligns with the Adobe Common Controls Framework (CCF), helping ensure compliance with stringent security protocols. The ISMAP framework is based on the ISO 27000 series and has evolved into a comprehensive collection of nearly 1,200 detailed controls. The Adobe CCF plays a critical role in helping to ensure our continued compliance with ISMAP and other industry or government standards, regulations, and certifications. Moreover, the Adobe CCF enables consistent management of risks across systems and operations, offering a structured approach to security and privacy. As a leader for common controls in the industry, the Adobe CCF is continuously evolving to align with global security compliance standards and regulations, such as SOC2, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, FedRAMP, IRAP, Spain ENS, and many others.
Additionally, Acrobat AI Assistant upholds Adobe’s AI Ethics principles of accountability, responsibility, and transparency — ensuring that Adobe’s generative AI models and third-party LLMs are never trained on customer data.
Shifting compliance
One of the key strategies of registering Acrobat AI Assistant with ISMAP is to proactively integrate compliance and security measures early in the development process. By onboarding new products early and utilizing CCF, we not only streamline audit tasks but also ensure that broad controls are already in place, setting new products up for success.
This early focus on compliance significantly helps lighten the burden on engineers, guiding product teams to standardized, efficient paths that simplify the entire compliance process. By shifting compliance responsibilities earlier and embedding them within the change management process, we enable a smoother, more secure development cycle.
As Adobe continues to lead in AI-powered solutions, Acrobat AI Assistant remains committed to fostering customer trust by continually working toward enhancing our security governance and safeguarding user data and privacy.
