Make time for what matters this Lunar New Year

Following the fearless Year of the Tiger, this Lunar New Year is a chance to take a step back and plan your path ahead; to find the inspiration you need to be prolific – whether in your creative pursuits, business endeavours or connections with others.

The Year of the Rabbit is both a symbol of calmness and a timely opportunity to reflect, contemplate and consider making time for what matters most to you.

CJroBlue: Creativity in the Year of the Rabbit

This year, we partnered with Korean illustrator CJroBlue to illustrate a short film that conveys the importance of making time for what matters most. CJ’s illustrations tell the story of a father spending time with his two daughters over the Lunar New Year holiday and reflecting on this quality time as the most important thing to him.

CJ also shared where he draws his inspiration from and how he plans to make time this Year of the Rabbit.

As someone who lived apart from his family from a young age, CJ says he enjoyed illustrating the story of a father who is able to reconnect with his two daughters during Lunar New Year. CJ shared that it was the feelings of love, warmth and reconnecting with his own family that guided him through the creative process.

“My biggest concern as an illustrator is that, as I get older, what I want to express and talk about will not be an interesting topic for commercial audiences,” he says.

As CJ takes time to pause and consider his year ahead, his focus for the new year is, “to think about what stories people want to hear and see, and to think about the new ways to express those stories.”

Sharing in the spirit of the Year of the Rabbit

Lunar New Year means something different to everyone, and is celebrated just as uniquely. This year, we asked creators from around Asia Pacific to celebrate the new year by making time to create and to inspire and encourage their community to do the same. We also asked them how they plan to celebrate the new year and what the Year of the Rabbit means to them.

“I celebrate Lunar New Year yearly by visiting my elderlies and relatives in both Singapore and Malaysia. My family and I follow all the usual traditions like exchanging red packets and oranges, eating lou hei and steamboat.”

“Over the last two years, Chinese New Year celebrations had been quiet due to Covid restrictions. I really missed large family gatherings and celebrating the new year over reunion dinners. This coming Year of the Rabbit, I’m looking forward to finally seeing and spending quality time with my extended relatives.”
